Our file has exited IBESR!!

Four months and six days post bonding trip, our file has finally been released from the black hole, IBESR!! We have been waiting for this news for a very, very long time. Normally this step, in the past has only taken 1-2 months, is now taking 3-4 months. From what I have been told, the longer timeframe is due to a mixture of referral backlogs and new I800 processes.

I saw a missed call on my phone this morning from Greensboro, NC where my agency is located. After about an hour of waiting, I decided to call my agency and find out if they were trying to contact me and sure enough they were! Our agency coordinator told us that our file had finally exited IBESR. We spoke for about 10-15 minutes about our process and what to expect next. Our next phase will take approximately 3-4 months and then embassy approval which is 6-8 weeks. We are still expected to have JP home within the one year time frame of receiving our referral.  When we got off the phone, our coordinator sent a follow up email which also included the adoption authorization from IBESR.

I'm planning our next trip to Haiti in March with my mom and sister.

  2. Amorie, hi! I stumbled onto your blog today and am so happy to read of the adoption of your son from Haiti, and especially your release from IBESR. We spent 13 very difficult, long months in IBESR back in 2008 and 2009 during the adoption of our two sons from Haiti, but recently celebrated seven years HOME. It does happen! So thrilled for you to have your little boy home forever soon. God bless.

  3. Congratulations on your journey to adopt from Haiti. We adopted a girl from Haiti too. She is 9 years old now. We brought her home 7 years ago right after the earthquake. We had been working on her adoption nearly 2 years and were stuck in the IBESR at the time of the earthquake. You can read about her journey home on our website www.jasonwiebedairy.com on the blog.

    1. Hi Sheri, thanks for connecting with me and sharing your blog. I can't imagine going through this process during the time of the earthquake like you did! I was a nervous wreck when hurricane Matthew came through Haiti in October. We hope to have him home in the next 4-5 months.

  4. My Haitian daughter had her Visa hearing today. 4 hours later, we got our Article 5. We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
    Blessings to your family.
